Oct 12, 2009 - New rule governing contact hours, effective immediately.
Contact Hour definition changes from 50 minutes to 60 minutes. One (1) contact hour equals sixty (60) minutes. One half (1/2 or .5) contact hour equals thirty (30) minutes.
The contact hour definition for all other Florida Department of Health Boards remains 50 minutes. Licensees of other Florida Boards could receive a greater number of contact hours than Nurses.
New programs added to the FMES website after October 12, 2009 will be based on the new contact hour rule. Existing programs are "grandfathered" based on the new ruling language. In other words, a program that existed before October 2009 was based on "50 minutes equals 1 contact hour" is "grandfathered in" and still approved for one full credit hour.
