Credentials (RRT, CRT, etc) awarded by the NBRC on or after July 1, 2002 are valid for a period of five years and are subject to the Continuing Competency Program requirements.

Annual renewal of your NBRC ($25.00) status is based on calendar year (January 1 - December 31). Credentialed practitioners should renew their active status by December 31 each year. This expiration is separate from your credential expiration.

An active NBRC status ensures that no fee will be required for compliance with the Continuing Competency Program (CCP)

The only credentials that must meet Continuing Competency Program (CCP) requirements are those earned as of July 1, 2002.

Depending upon how many credentials you hold, there are several combinations of subjects you may need to submit. The grid shown below should provide specific information for all credential combinations.

Licensed respiatory therapists are required to provide evidence they are continuing to meet current standards of practice and have successfully renewed their national credentials issued by the NBRC.

What happens if your NBRC credential expires?

As an individual whose credential has expired, you have two years following the expiration of your credential to apply for testing. To apply for the examination, you will be required to pay the new application fee and a $150 reinstatement fee. If you successfully complete the examination, your credential will be reinstated without having to meet the then-current admission requirements. However, if two years lapse and you have not successfully passed the examination, you are required to reapply as a new applicant and meet all admission policies in effect at that time.
